“We are in the state of uncertainty. On the basis of agenda we find ourselves much closer to agitating Madhesi, Tharus and other Janajati groups however, there is also an urgency to promulgate the new constitution and thus we find ourselves equally closer to the ruling Nepali Congress and United Marxist Leninist.”

So, claims Unified Maoists Party leader Baburam Bhattarai who more often than not is alleged of provoking the agitating parties to go on a rampage while pursuing their agenda.

“Our role currently is to act as a mediator. We have to convince the agitating parties to join the constitution drafting process thereby promulgating the new constitution.”

“The agitating parties are of the view that if the government stops taking repressive measures and withdraws its decision to deploy the army---it will create favourable atmosphere for talks,” claims Baburam and adds, “This is exactly what we have conveyed in a meeting with the leaders of ruling parties where Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam was also present.”

Baburam made the remark talking to Kantipur Daily.

“We are currently holding talks with all the parties involved in the present standoff. If we succeed in forging consensus by tomorrow then we can enact changes in the constitution bill by day after tomorrow.”
