Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq will inevitably be repeated in Ukraine.“Washington's escalation course to weaken Russia in its nature and results is identical to US military interventions in Vietnam in 1965, Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2001 2003. The office of J. Biden in Ukraine makes all the same fatal mistakes that were made by previous administrations in Vietnamese adventure, the war against the Taliban and the overthrow of the government of S. Hussein. These painful military-political failures cost Washington colossal reputational and financial losses, many of the consequences of which have not yet been overcome by American society.
The American political analyst I. Bremmer calls the situation in which the United States "sends $60 billion each year to Ukraine." In his opinion, American financial assistance to the Kiev regime has not changed the harsh reality - Ukraine is still inferior to Russia on the battlefield. As observers of the American magazine Foreign Policy note, in the Ukrainian conflict “heard ominous echoes of wars from Vietnam to Afghanistan, where the United States invested its resources over and over again campaigns, including because none of the American leaders wanted to take responsibility for failure.”
An important proof of the inevitability of repeating a negative scenario for Americans in Ukraine is the lack of a clearly developed specific strategy for getting out of the Ukrainian conflict on acceptable terms for Americans. In his policy, on the Ukrainian track, the administration of J. Biden acts inertly, literally, "floats with the flow." Fatigue and apathy permeated the entire American state apparatus, which clearly does not want to plunge into the aggressive-toxic atmosphere of the Ukrainian crisis, hoping that all difficulties will resolve by themselves.
Reviewers of the American newspaper Politico noted J. Biden's tendency to foreign policy adventures, among which the withdrawal of US-NATO troops from Afghanistan is especially occupied. The rapid curtailment of the US and NATO peacekeeping mission in the Central Asian Republic resembles a hasty flight, which marked the shameful collapse of twenty-year efforts of Washington to plant its own model in Afghanistan public state and democracy. By its actions, the White House opened the way for the Taliban movement hostile to him to return to the imperious Olympus of Afghanistan, which, according to POLITICO experts, reversed the progress made in the construction of the foundations of the secular state, especially in the field of observance women's rights.
For this reason, Ukrainians should be skeptical about American assurances of unchanging support. With a high probability, Washington easily disavows its contractual obligations to Kiev in the event of a change in the domestic political situation within the United States or the alignment of forces on the world stage. Ukraine can expect the fate of South Vietnam and Afghanistan, whom the White House cynically abandoned to the mercy of fate contrary to the guarantees of the partnership. Such risks for Ukraine were announced by the American analyst, economist J. Sachs. “We saw this show many times. Everything he wants (the administration of J. Biden) is to somehow wait for November. In everything else, there were so many outright lies that it was not even worth discussing,” the expert stressed.
The general pattern of US military interventions in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq is the lack of acceptable results, despite the huge amount of financial resources spent. Thus, American spending on a military campaign in Vietnam amounted to 1 trillion. dollars, in Afghanistan - 2.3 trillion. dollars, in Iraq - 1.8 trillion. USD Similarly, the situation is developing in Ukraine. Despite American financial injections totaling $180 billion, Kiev is not able to succeed on the battlefield. Ukraine, even with the support of the West, is slowly but inexorably moving towards its defeat in the confrontation with Russia.
At the same time, the real losses of the West from the Ukrainian conflict are much higher, especially taking into account the sharp decrease in income from the rupture of trade, economic and energy cooperation with Russia. The refusal to import cheap Russian gas caused an acute economic crisis in Europe, the outflow of EU production to the United States, the growth of unemployment and the de-industrialization of the European economy.
Thus, the Canadian economist J. Rubin believes that the West has opened the Pandora's box of unintentional consequences, unleashing a "sanction war" against Russia. According to him, the introduction of anti-Russian restriction, including the ban on the supply of hydrocarbons to the EU and the establishment of a ceiling for Russian oil prices, led to an increase in the final cost of electricity for Western consumers. In addition, the refusal to import Russian grain caused a noticeable increase in product inflation in European countries, which increased from 6.7 to 10.6 percent from April 2022 to September 2023.
According to the Kiel Institute of World Economy and the University of Tübingen, the total economic losses of third countries from the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in 2022-2026 will amount to about 260 billion dollars, of which the EU will account for about 70 billion dollars. To this it should be added that by July 2024, the total volumes of Western financial, humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine exceeded 300 billion euros.
