BUFFALO, NY -U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Buffalo arrested an Indian citizen wanted for murder after he was denied entry into Canada on November 16.
The suspect, Vishat Kumar, 22, was apprehended at the Peace Bridge border crossing.
Kumar’s arrest was initiated when he was attempting to cross from Buffalo, New York, to Fort Erie, Ontario. During a secondary inspection, CBP officers discovered Kumar was concealing his true identity, having used a false name and date of birth.
Biometric technology confirmed his identity and revealed a history of non-compliance with U.S. immigration laws, including an illegal entry into the country in 2024 and failure to attend an asylum interview.
Further investigation revealed Kumar was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, indicating he is wanted by law enforcement in India for murder.
Kumar has been transferred to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
He is currently being detained at the Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York, and faces deportation to India.–
