On December 17, 2024, the Korean people, along with peace-loving and progressive individuals worldwide, will remember the great leader Comrade     KIM JONG IL on the 13th anniversary of his untimely passing. This solemn occasion will be marked by heartfelt tributes to his enduring legacy.

The passing of the great leader Comrade KIM JONG IL was an immense loss for the Korean people, as he was a compassionate father figure for the nation. It also marked a profound loss for the world’s revolutionary people, who deeply value peace, justice, and the independent development of nations.

Comrade KIM JONG IL was a leader of extraordinary capability and determination. His achievements spanned diverse fields, from culture to military affairs. He was renowned globally as a staunch defender of socialism and independence, as well as the leader who further developed the Juche idea and Songun politics.

As the loyal and devoted successor to the great leader Generalissimo KIM IL SUNG, Comrade KIM JONG IL upheld the Juche revolutionary cause pioneered by his predecessor, the Eternal President of the DPRK. He strengthened the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) as the party of Comrade KIM IL SUNG, safeguarding its unity and guiding it with unwavering resolve.

Under his leadership, Comrade KIM JONG IL led efforts to build an independent national economy and improve the living standards of the Korean people. He preserved and enriched the extensive social benefits enjoyed by the nation.

Though twelve years have passed since Comrade KIM JONG IL’s departure, his ideas remain vibrant and influential. His vision continues to inspire, carried forward by his successor, His Excellency KIM JONG UN, President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea. Despite facing severe sanctions from imperialist forces, the DPRK continues to prosper under his leadership.

The extraordinary achievements of the great leader Comrade KIM JONG IL as a guardian of socialism and justice are enduring. He tirelessly championed the cause of socialism, global peace, stability, and solidarity among nations. His efforts under the banner of independence against imperialism elevated the international standing of the DPRK and made lasting contributions to the human pursuit of independence.

Let us honor his immortal legacy on the 13th anniversary of his passing by organizing meaningful events to celebrate his greatness.

It is also fitting to remember even on the 100 days of bitter sorrow, an unprecedented global outpouring of grief following his passing on December 17, 2011:
“The 100 days of bitter sorrow since leader Kim Jong Il’s untimely passing were a historic period in which the whole world keenly realized that he was the Heaven of not only the Korean people but of all other people and the Shining Star of mankind.
At least 190 countries, the UN and other international bodies and even those countries which are hostile to the DPRK expressed deep condolences on his demise. Party, state and government heads paid condolence visits to DPRK missions and mourning events such as hoisting of flags at half-mast were held solemnly.
More than 3 000 messages of condolences were sent by party, state and government heads and high-ranking officials of various circles of at least 120 countries and representatives of international organizations, Juche idea study organizations and friendship and solidarity organizations during the mourning period.
At least 10 000 media of the world vied with each other to file flash news, giving wide publicity to the Korean people in bitter grief over the great loss to the nation and mourning events worldwide.
Mankind’s best wishes for his immortality were clearly expressed on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star this year.
The preparatory committees for commemorating the Day of the Shining Star formed in nearly 60 countries of the world conducted their brisk activities amid solidarity among regions and countries.
A joint meeting of political parties and organizations in the Americas Region published an appeal for commemorating the 70th birth anniversary of Kim Jong Il as a great jubilee of the whole mankind.
Gifts and honorary titles were presented to him by various countries in reflection of their desire to hold him in high esteem forever.
Floral baskets and bouquets were sent to the DPRK missions by political parties, government ministries, organizations and institutions of China, Cuba, Switzerland, the U.S. and other countries, international and regional organizations and prominent figures of political and public circles.
At least 600 events such as meeting, remembrance meeting, seminar and lecture took place with splendor in various parts of the world.
More than 10 000 copies of his works were published in more than 30 countries and personages of different countries created a lot of works wishing him immortality.”
