Pun, the Unified Maoists Party candidate garnered 325 votes against Amiya Kumar Yadav – the Nepali Congress candidate, who received 212 votes only. Ten votes were adjudged invalid of the total 547 votes cast. 47 parliamentarians representing the agitating Madhesi parties opted out of the voting process in the parliament.
Bidya Devi Bhandari of United Marxist Leninist was the other day elected president of the country.
With President Bhandari from UML, Vice President Pun representing Unified Maoists, Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli from UML, Speaker Onsari Gharti representing Unified Maoists now leading the overall power setup, the country has gone to the communist fold.
