Kim Il Sung(1912-1994), the eternal President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea who authored the Juche idea and the Songun idea, founded the Korean People's Revoltionary Army(KPRA), the predecessor of the Korean People's Army(KPA), on April 25, 1932. At that time, the Korean people had neither their own party nor state under the military occupation by Japan. Under his leadership, the KPRA achieved the historic cause of national liberation on August 15, 1945 by defeating the Japanese aggressors, who tried to become the "Leader" of Asia and realize the wild ambition of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.

After liberation, Kim Il Sung gave priority to strengthening the national military might by establishing the munitions industry first.

The KPA, thus developed into a regular armed force on February 8th, 1948 prior to the founding of the DPRK, defeated the US, which had been boasting of being the "strongest" in the world, for the first time in the latter's history in the Korean war(1950-1953) started by the latter.

After the war the country continued to forcus on buillding up its military strength by carrying out the policy of turning the whole army into an army of cadres, modernizing it, arming the entire population and fortifying the whole country and implementing the line of simultaneously developing the econoic construction and defence upbuilding, with the result that it smashed the continued ilitary provocations by the US such as incidents of the US armed spy ship Pueblo and large spy aircraft EC-121 in the 1960s and the Panmunjom incident in the 1970s.

By the end of the last century, when the US-led allied imperialist forces ran amuck to isolate the DPRK, taking advantage of the collapse of socialism in several socialis countries, Kim Jong Il, eternal Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, held higher the banner of Songun and introduced Songun politics in a comprehensive way.

Songun politics is a unique mode of socialist politics which gives priority to military affairs in view of the lessons of the world socialist movement, the complex situation that prevailed on the Korean peninsula and the region surrounding it, and the hostility and incessant provocations by the US-led imperialists. Thanks to the Songun politics, the might of the KPA was further consolidated so as firmy to defend socialism. VOA reported: it must be acknowledged that Kim Jong Il is a political leader, the kind of whom has not existed in the world so far, a socialist statesman and military commander possessed of absolute faith in and loyalty to socialism and stubbornness.

The KPA's tradition of achieving victory and glory under the banner of Songun is now being succeeded briliantly by Comrade Kim Jong Un.

After the demise of Chairman Kim Jong Il, he declared that the DPRK would invariably follow the road of independence, the road of Songun and the road of socialism and further consolidated the country's military strength, the bacjbone of which is the KPA. To cope with the daily-escalating military provocation and nuclear threat by the US and its vassal forces, he put forward the line of simultaneously conducting economic construction and building up the nuclear forces and led its implemention. Now, the DPRK possesses even H-bomb, achieving he status of a nuclear power in the East, and the KPA has developed into an invincible army that no formidable enemy would dare to provoke. If the US attempts to violate the sovereignty and right to existence of the Korean nation with nuclear weapons, we will resort to a nuclear preemptive strike without an hesitation, the moment a war breaks out, the territory of the US will disappear on this planet; we will wipe out the enemy, so that no one survivies to sign the instrument of surrender-this is the firm stand of the army and people of the DPRK.

What is to be mentioned in addition is the fact that the KPA has not only defended theh country but dynamically stepped up socialist construction as the main force and hardcore unit of the socialist cause. Holding the slogan "Let us take upon ourselves both national defence and socialist construction," the KPA has always played the leading role in building monumental structures and making breajthroughs in economic construction.

Despite the comprehensive sanctions and blokade imposed by the US and its vassal forces, the construction of an economic power is being promoted briskly and world-startling successoes are being made one after another. This is inconceivable apart from the role of the KPA, the main force of the cause of Songun.

 Only victory and glory are in store for the KPA advancing under the unfurled banner of Songun.
