Nepal: Puzzled China NOTES recent Indian behavior in Nepal

०८ शुक्रबार , आश्विन २०७२१० बर्ष अगाडि

India’s open support to the ongoing agitation in Madhesh region has deteriorated situation in Nepal, so claims Dr. Shisheng Hu of Beijing based prominent think tank on South Asian Affairs, CICIR (China Institute of Contemporary International Relations).

“China and India both want stability in Nepal,” he says talking to Nagarik National Daily in Beijing and adds, “However, if India continues to openly support Madheshi agitation will certainly deteriorate situation in Nepal.”

“Rather than issuing one statement after another, India could urge the government and the agitating Madhesi parties for talks to resolve their disputes.”

He also believes that India could play a mediatory role.

PS: The fact is that China has never been a reliable partner of nepal. Easier talked than done.

“It is indeed a greater political achievement for Nepal to promulgate the new constitution. The political parties have shown great maturity by ending the long political transition that was hindering economic and social development of the country. The constitution has been made as inclusive as possible. It has addressed major concerns of the population. With the new political framework Nepal has entered into a new era.”

“I believe that issues could be sorted our between the government and the agitating parties democratically”, he says and adds, “The situation in Madhesh is a temporary phenomenon and it will be resolve sooner than later.”

PS: Can Nepal expect China's help and diplomatic mediation?
