Seventeen days after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the country killing more ten thousand people (toll counting) and injuring thousands, another earthquake of similar magnitude shook the country, May 12, 2015.

 

According to the USGS, tremor measuring 7.3 on Richter Scale with its epicenter at 18 kilo meters south east of Kodari in Sindhupalchowk district- close to the Nepal-China border was recorded at 12:55 PM. More than 15 aftershocks have already been recorded since then.

In the district of Dolakha 34 dead bodies have been recovered and the total casualty throughout the country has soared to 61. More than 1500 people have been injured, reveals latest government data.

Cabinet Meeting:

In an emergency cabinet meeting summoned immediately after the earthquake, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala appealed the countrymen to exhibit restraint. He also assured that the government has already instructed the state mechanism to immediately get involved in the search and rescue operation.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs briefed the cabinet members that 26 districts have been badly affected by the Tuesday’s earthquake.
