Without fearing possible Indian wrath, Chief District Officer of Gorkha, Uddhav Timilsina took the courage to lodge formal complaint with Prime Minister Sushil Koirala against the relief operation being conducted by the Indian Army helicopters in the district.
“The local administration has had enough of the Indian helicopters”, said Timilsina pointblank.
“Indian wrath comes in various forms. Only the bearer knows where the shoe pinches”, observers in Nepal very well understand pain of the Nepali bureaucrats.
Timilsina must be applauded for the courage.
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala accompanied by high ranking Nepal Army officials including Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsere Rana had arrived in the district of Gorkhha, May 5, 2015.
Gorkha was the epicenter of April 25, 7.8 magnitude devastating earthquake.
“I would like to tell the Prime Minister that Indian Helicopters are not coordinating with us,” said Timilsena and added, “We are in great difficulty to carry out our duties due to this.”
“Every evening we meet to discuss next day’s flight plans. Sometime it does not fly. If it does, it is filled with the Indian media men.”
“We have failed to understand whether they are supporting us or not,” he also told the Prime Minister.
In the meantime, local representatives of major political parties, Nepali Congress, Unified Maoists and Nepal Communist Party-Maoist have issued a joint statement deploring strange activities of the Indian rescue helicopters.
The statement is signed by Nepali Congress District President Hari Bahadur Ghale, district Chairman Lekh Bahadur Thapa of Unified Maoists and Incharge Parsu Ram Ramtel of Nepal Communist Party(Maoist).
Even Baburam Bhattarai- the JNU graduate who shared close ties with Indian intelligence agencies during his India exile claims that India micro-manages Nepali politics and bureaucracy through its intelligence agencies.
How the Indian agencies operating in Nepal take revenge against Timilsina will also be interesting to watch?
