
The United Nations issued the appeal simultaneously from Kathmandu, Geneva and New York urging members of the international community, Wednesday, April 29, 2015 which it said was needed to contain the crisis from going out of control.
Addressing a press meet held at the UN House in Kathmandu, the UN resident coordinator Jamie McGoldrick while stressed that the timing of the international interventions remains of essence he was also encouraged by the response so far.
"Although I am heartened and encouraged by progress of the response to date, efforts need to be maintained and stepped up to ensure vital assistance reaches all the affected, especially those in the remote areas."
McGoldrick also stressed on the need of standard tents, emergency health services, medicines and clean drinking water as compulsory for at least half a million people forced to live under the open sky since Saturday.
The UN has already allocated $15 Million in the emergency fund for the earthquake victims.
