KAF Amplifies Call for Implementation of UN Resolutions Through Mobile Digital Campaign in New York

April 21, 2026

Washington-based World Kashmir Awareness Forum (WKAF), launched a high-visibility digital advocacy campaign across New York City, deploying mobile LED advertising trucks carrying sharp and compelling messages urging the United Nations to implement its long-standing resolutions on Kashmir. The campaign coincided with the 78th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution # 47, adopted unanimously on April 21, 1948, and co-sponsored by the United States and the United Kingdom.

The mobile digital trucks navigated key locations across Manhattan, including the United Nations Headquarters, Times Square, Freedom Tower, and areas surrounding diplomatic missions. Operating from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the campaign strategically targeted high-footfall zones such as First Avenue through Ninth Avenue and streets between 23rd and 59th, maximizing visibility among diplomats, policymakers, and the general public.

The brightly lit electronic displays featured a series of concise and impactful messages, including:

Decades elapsed, sufferings not diminished: UN resolutions for Kashmir remain unfinished.
Struggle for Free Kashmir Will Never Impede: To UN Resolutions India Will Have to Concede.
UN Resolutions Succinctly State: Kashmir is Not an Indian Protectorate.
Abuses in Kashmir Continue Till Date: UN Needs to Fulfill the Mandate.
Voices of Freedom From Kashmir Strong as Ever: UN Wake Up and Deliver.
Kashmiris Reject Indian Occupation: UN Resolutions the Only Solution.

Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, President, WKAF and Executive Producer, Saffron Kingdom, a Kashmiri film, while acknowledging the importance of traditional demonstrations, he emphasized that mobile digital outreach offers a broader and more dynamic engagement. Unlike stationary protests, which are limited in reach, the mobile campaign ensured continuous exposure to diverse audiences across multiple strategic locations.

Dr. Mir added that India keeps committing ethnic cleansing, cultural and religious repression while the world is watching. A historic Kashmiri civilization, as old as the Indian civilization is being erased under the Indian boot. The UN, the Organization of Muslim of Cooperation (OIC) and other neighboring countries, including Pakistan have a moral obligation to consistently speak out and support the disenfranchised people of Kashmir.

Dr. Mir suggested that Kashmiri diaspora will need to make common cause and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian diaspora achieve their shared goals of restoring their rights of self-determination. We both have documented UN resolutions justifying our struggles and international community’s thumbs up for the rightness of our cause of universal human freedom.

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman, World Forum for Peace & Justice said that the digital trucks initiative sought to remind the international community that the commitments made under resolution # 47, and subsequent Security Council resolutions, remain unfulfilled. These resolutions call for a free and impartial plebiscite under United Nations supervision, enabling the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise their internationally recognized right to self-determination.

Dr. Fai added that digital advertising trucks were chosen for their proven effectiveness in delivering messages to a broad and diverse audience. Unlike static demonstrations, these mobile platforms allowed WKAF to reach tens of thousands of individuals within hours. In high-density areas like Times Square alone, the campaign is estimated to have generated between 50,000 to 60,000 impressions daily.

Dr Imtiaz khan, Kashmiri American scholar stated that the non-fulfillment of Resolution 47 has had long-lasting implications for regional stability and international diplomacy. Kashmir remains one of the most militarized and contested regions in the world, with periodic escalations posing risks between two nuclear-armed states. Resolution 47 remains a reference point in diplomatic discourse, symbolizing both the aspirations and constraints of multilateral conflict resolution.

Dr. Khan added that the non-implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 47 has often been cited as an example of the organization’s limited capacity to enforce its own decisions, particularly in conflicts involving deeply entrenched national interests. Because the resolution laid out a clear, phased process—ceasefire, demilitarization, and plebiscite—its failure has been perceived by critics as a gap between the UN’s stated principles and its practical influence.

Sardar Taj Khan, main organizer of the event and Senior Vice Chairman of Kashmir Mission USA, said that these messages of the digital trucks underscored concerns over ongoing human rights violations, demographic changes, and the continued denial of political rights in the region.

Sardar Taj Khan added that 78 years of often bloody wars between two nuclear powers with burgeoning mostly impoverished populations, brought India and Pakistan to the brink of a nuclear war in April-May of 2025. All that because of the Indian occupation of Kashmir and Kashmiris’ unrelenting struggle for freedom

Raja Mukhtar, Co-Organizer of the event and Spokesman, JKLF North America said that the digital campaign ultimately served as a renewed appeal to the United Nations and the international community to uphold their commitments and act decisively. Raja Mukhtar demanded the release of all political prisoners, including the most recognizable leader, Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmed Shah and others.

Sardar Zarif Khan, former Advisor to the President of Azad Kashmir and President of Kashmir American Welfare Association (KAWA) said that April 21 marks one of the most important days in the history of Jammu and Kashmir as it guaranteed the people of Kashmir an unfettered right to self-determination under UN auspices.

Sardar Zarif added that the recent negotiations between Iran and the United States indicate that military options are not viable for resolving conflicts. It is hoped that President Trump will follow through on his proposal to facilitate mediation, encouraging India and Pakistan, together with Kashmiri leadership, to engage in discussions aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict.

Sardar Sawar Khan, former Advisor to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir denounced the inhumane level of atrocities, deaths and imprisonments of political leaders, human rights activists, and journalists in Kashmir under the largest illegitimate Indian military occupation, a dehumanization that has gone on for over 78 years. India, he said, has 'arrogantly' disregarded the UN mandates and continued to trample over the rights of millions of people of the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Sardar Zulfiqar Roshan Khan, founding member of KAWA said that resolution # 47 called for holding of a Plebiscite under UN auspices that will decide the future destiny of the region. Notwithstanding the fact that both India and Pakistan welcomed the UN mediation, but the promises made to people of Kashmir were never fulfilled.

Zulfiqar Khan added that on August 5, 2019, Indian parliament abrogated article 35A and 370 and revoked the autonomous status of Kashmir, opening the floodgates for fanatic Hindus who with connivance of Indian government to receive domicile certificates along with land grabbed from the local population.

Sardar Sajid Sawar, young human rights activist, said that the world powers need to know that unless India accepts the realities, Kashmir dispute will fester; and that any settlement must satisfy democratic principles, the rule of law, and security for every inhabitant of Kashmir. Unfortunately, Said added that 78 years on, India continues to violate that pledge it made to the people of Kashmir. Peace has been elusive to the region, and no such prospects is in sight. All because of India ‘s evil designs and devious government policies.

Advocate Imtiaz Khan Garalvi, General Secretary, Kashmir Mission, USA emphasized that the brutalities of Indian government cannot and should not go unnoticed. It is the responsibility of the Kashmiri diaspora to be the voice of voiceless people in the corridors of powers all over the world.

Khalid Awan, President, Pakistan Peoples Party, USA said that peace in the region of South Asia would benefit not only those who are directly impacted by this conflict – Kashmiris - but India as well. Sounder minds must prevail.  More rational methods of dealing with differences must be sought. Seventy-eight years should demonstrate a need for a change in policy, a policy that acknowledges the need for coming together in a process that accepts the right of all people to determine their own destiny.

Syed Hasan Raza said that the purpose of so many Indian soldiers is to suppress the civilian population of Kashmir into submission. But the people of Kashmir will continue their struggle till the date when Kashmir will be liberated from the occupation of government of India.

Raja Razak, Leader of PMLN New York said to break the will of Kashmiris struggling for the exercise of their UN-pledged right of self-determination, India has deployed over 900,000 soldiers fully armed and with unlimited powers under the draconian Kashmir specific laws. They have wreaked havoc in the region, including mass killing of youth, gang rapes and blinding children with pellet guns and now land grabbing. The ultimate goal is to convert Kashmir into a Hindu majority state with a long-term plan to achieve favorable outcome in case plebiscite is held in the future.

Syed HHasnat Ahmed Shah said it is a fact that today the nation of Kashmir is facing an existential threat. More than 4.3 million Indians have been given Domicile certificates. India is doing it to change the demography of Kashmir and to change the Muslim majority character of Kashmir into minority.”

Syed Mohammad Ahmed said that the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir acquire a continuing decisive importance because they constitute the only international agreement freely negotiated between India and Pakistan on the future status of Kashmir. They also embody the only principle on whose basis a just and durable settlement of the problem can be achieved -- -the principle of freedom of choice by the people concerned.

Syed Shahbaz Shah highlighted that there must be an early resolution to the Jammu & Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He said that the people of occupied Kashmir should never feel alone in their struggle. The people and leadership of Azad Kashmir stand by them.
