Nambiar Becomes Westchester’s First South Asian County Legislator

NEW YORK, NY – Anant Nambiar took the oath of office on January 1 as the County Legislator for District 7, becoming the first South Asian and the first Hindu to serve on the Westchester County Board of Legislators. The swearing in ceremony was held at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College.

A longtime resident of Larchmont, Nambiar comes into office winning more than 68 percent of the vote in the District 7 race.

Prior to his election, he served as a Mamaroneck Town Councilman and was also a member of the Mamaroneck School Board, where he focused on local governance and education issues.

Before entering public office, Nambiar spent more than two decades in the financial sector, holding senior leadership roles at major institutions including American Express, Mastercard, and Synchrony Financial. His professional background is expected to inform his approach to fiscal policy and economic development at the county level.
