KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has initiated a diplomatic process to investigate the death of Nepali student Prisa Sah, who was found dead in her hostel room at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India.

Following the incident, Minister Rana stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promptly launched a diplomatic initiative involving senior officials from the Indian and Odisha governments, as well as the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, to ensure a thorough investigation.

Taking to Facebook, Foreign Minister Rana wrote: “Immediately after the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiated diplomatic efforts through high-level officials of the Indian government, the Odisha state government, and the Nepali Embassy in Delhi to uncover the truth.”

Expressing her grief, Minister Rana said she was heartbroken by the tragedy and extended her heartfelt condolences to Prisa’s family. “The death of Prisa Sah, a Nepali student studying at KIIT University in Odisha, India, has deeply saddened me. I pray for the eternal peace of Prisa’s soul and express my deepest sympathies to her family during this painful time,” she added.

Indian authorities reported that Prisa, a first-year undergraduate student, was found deceased in her hostel room. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed, and her body has been sent for postmortem examination, according to Indian media reports.

This is the second such incident at KIIT University in recent months. On February 4, another Nepali student, 20-year-old Prakriti Lamsal from Rupandehi, was also found dead in the same hostel where Sah had been staying.
