The main opposition Unified Maoists Party in a threat loaded statement issued Saturday has said that the ruling parties, Nepali Congress and United Marxist Leninist will be solely responsible for the consequences of trying to promulgate constitution through majority.
The Party chairman Pushpa Kamal says in the statement that his party would like to urge the ruling parties again to revisit the process of consensus.
We are resolute on our stand in favor of drafting a progressive constitution by recognizing marginalized identities and institutionalizing their rights, reads the statement and adds, “denial for talks by the ruling parties makes clear their intent for conflict, confrontation and keeping the nation without a constitution.
Their decision to promulgate the constitution through majority also goes against the 12-Point Agreement, broader peace agreement, interim constitution and all other agreements, reads the statement further.
The statement also warns against possible interference in the constitution drafting process by the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly and claims that his acts to forward the draft prepared jointly by the ruling parties in the Assembly will not only be deplorable but will also raise serious question mark on neutrality and honor of the post he presently holds.
The 30-Party opposition alliance headed by the Maoists party has concluded following their meeting in Singhdurbar, Saturday that move of ruling parties to promulgate the constitution through the process will be strongly retaliated.
In the meeting Pushpa Kamal briefed his partners that at a meeting with Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula early hours had clearly conveyed the ruling parties not to push them to the point of no return.
Reports quote Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba as saying, “On Sunday Chairman Nembang will through his own chair forward the proposal to constitute a committee to prepare questionnaire to begin the process of drafting the constitution.”
Dahal is right, indeed a point of no return!
Pushpa Kamal later talking to a group of journalists at his residence said, “This will totally polarize our country. It will split the society.”
Thankfully, he did not say that it will also sow the seeds of disintegration. God bless him!
However, the countdown has already begun, conclude critics.
The real Nepali crisis begins.
