In a meeting with Nepal’s Ambassador to India Dip Kumar Upadhya, Indian government officials seated at the Ministry of External Affairs have hinted that the blockade imposed by India will be gradually loosened after the parliament in Nepal ratifies the constitution amendment bill to address the demands of Madhesi parties.

Present in the meeting with Nepal’s Ambassador was Abhay Thakur- who heads the Nepal desk at the ministry of external affairs.

The Indian bureaucrats had also informed the ambassador that during fresh visit of Madhesi leaders to New Delhi they had advised the agitating side to come to terms with the government.

The process initiated by the government to amend the constitution is a welcome move, the officials told the ambassador.

The officials were also of the view that rather than lingering the process of consensus over re-delineation of federal provinces temporary solution could be reached to free the country from current stalemate.

To recall, the Indian minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj in her last telephone conversation with Nepal’s Foreign Affairs Minister Kamal Thapa had already indicated towards India’s intent to open the blockade.
